CETENA - The Italian Ship Research Centre - is a company of the FINCANTIERI Group dedicated to research and consultancy in the naval and maritime field. With a staff of 75, CETENA is based in Genova, with offices in Muggiano, Castellammare, Palermo, Ancona and a workshop in Riva Trigoso.
CETENA’s technical activities consist in numerical studies, simulations and measurements on board ships and in the company’s laboratory. Competence areas are Hydrodynamics, Structures and Materials, Vibrations and Noise, Ship Vulnerability and Signatures, Ergonomics and Human Factors, Virtual Prototyping, Risk Analysis and Process Simulation. In these areas, integration of expertise on numerical methods and measurement techniques is one of the strong points of CETENA’s consultancies. CETENA is also a designer and developer of ship monitoring systems, with a number of successful deliveries and installations on board naval vessels and cruise ships, included the aircraftcarrier Cavour and cruise ship Queen Victoria. Finally, CETENA’s Virtual Ship Laboratory - ViSLab – is an integrated simulation environment hosting CETENA’s navigation simulator SAND, used for technical consultancy and training programmes.
As a company focused on applied research and consultancy, CETENA’s role in Italy is that of a bridge between the academic world and the world of shipbuilding and maritime operations, with a consolidated relationship with the Ministries of Transport, Industry and Research and with the Italian Navy.
CETENA is involved in international research activities and is a member of ITTC (International Towing Tank Conference), ISSC (International Ship and Offshore Structures Congress), ECMAR (European Cooperation in Maritime Research), CRS (Cooperative Research Ship), AIRI (Italian Association for Industrial Research).
