Fincantieri is one of the world’s most prominent and diversified realities in marine engineering. With more than 7,000 ships built in over 200 years of history, it is the heir of the great Italian shipbuilding tradition. The company is the world leader in cruise shipbuilding, with a market share that since 1995 has never been below 25%, reaching peaks of over 60%. Since 1990 the company has delivered 47 cruise ships and its current 15-units order book will guarantee to its shipyards a busy schedule up to 2012. The company production value is around 3 billion Euros, over 60% in export, and confirms Fincantieri position at international level.

The group is the world leader in cruise shipbuilding, the reference operator for large ferries and the military sector.
The company - established in 1959 as Società Finanziaria Cantieri Navali – Fincantieri S.p.A. - in 1984 turned into an operating company, as a result of the merger of eight of its subsidiaries, operating in the shipbuilding and servicing fields as well as in engine construction. Fincantieri started a series of initiatives to encourage the company growth and promoted the development of activities in sectors close to its core business: passenger ships repairs and conversions, marine systems and components and mega-yachts.

The company is headquartered in Trieste and has a staff of approximately 9,400 people. It has two design centres, one in Trieste (the largest in Europe) and one in Genoa. Fincantieri has recently established Fincantieri Marine Group thanks to the acquisition of Manitowoc Marine Group in Wisconsin, one of the leading mid-sized shipbuilders in the United States for commercial and government customers (e.g. U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard).
The group is structured into dedicated business units:
